Vigna Arborina 2008 – Elio Altare (La Morra, Piemonte)

I recently tasted the Vigneto Arborina 2008 from Elio Altare, a Barolo that embodies the essence of La Morra in Piedmont. This wine, made from the Nebbiolo grape, combines traditional viticulture with modern techniques, resulting in an elegant and refined expression of the region. When poured, its vibrant ruby-red color with garnet reflections immediately stands out. The bouquet reveals aromas of dark cherries, flowers, spices, and mineral notes, while the palate is characterized by polished tannins and a harmonious structure.

The Elio Altare winery, located in the heart of the Barolo region, is renowned for its innovative approach to winemaking. Under the leadership of Elio Altare, the estate has successfully merged traditional methods with modern techniques to produce wines of exceptional quality. Today, the winery is run by his daughter, Silvia Altare, who has been actively involved in the family business since 2003. Silvia combines family traditions with contemporary insights and oversees all aspects of winemaking, from vineyard management to marketing and sales. Her dedication and passion have contributed to the ongoing evolution and success of the estate. The winery currently covers approximately 10 hectares and produces around 70,000 bottles per year, with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental respect.

The Vigneto Arborina 2008 truly shines when paired with rich dishes such as lamb shoulder with rosemary, wild boar ragù, or truffle risotto. The wine’s complex flavors and firm structure beautifully complement the deep, earthy tones of these dishes. Hard cheeses, such as aged Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano, also make an excellent pairing for this Barolo, as the umami notes of the cheese enhance the wine’s fruity and floral nuances. These combinations create a culinary experience that fully highlights the elegance and depth of the Vigneto Arborina 2008.
