San Leonardo 2004 – Tenuta San Leonardo (Avio, Trentino)

Following the recent visit of Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga to Villa Licata in February, I decided to take the San Leonardo 2004 from my collection and taste it again. This wine, a tribute to the rich tradition of Tenuta San Leonardo, is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère, and 10% Merlot. The result is a wine with a deep ruby-red color and a complex aroma of dark berries, green herbs, and subtle oak notes. On the palate, it offers a firm structure with ripe tannins and a long, refined finish.

Tenuta San Leonardo, located in the Trentino region, celebrates its 300th anniversary in 2024. The vineyards, with vines up to 50 years old, benefit from a unique microclimate and soil composition, contributing to the complexity and finesse of their wines.

This wine truly shines when paired with dishes such as roasted lamb with rosemary, game meats, or a rich truffle risotto. The complex flavors and firm structure of the wine harmonize beautifully with the deep, earthy tones of these dishes, creating an unforgettable culinary experience.
