The 2011 vintage was warm and generous, and you feel it instantly in the glass. Deep purple, with barely any signs of evolution. The nose is rich, almost lavish: dark cherries, cassis, plum compote, followed by cocoa, liquorice, balsamic notes and a hint of exotic spice. As it opens, it gains that velvety, luxurious perfume that only great Merlot can lend — warm, but never heavy.
On the palate, the wine is full and silky, with a near-creamy texture. The fruit remains vibrant, the tannins fully ripe and beautifully integrated. The 2011 shows the hallmark depth of Redigaffi: an explosion of dark fruit, chocolate, spice, and a long, warm finish that continues to echo. Yet the wine keeps enough freshness to maintain perfect balance.
For food pairings, I think of rich, savoury dishes: roasted red meats, herb-crusted lamb, or anything featuring mushrooms and truffle. Aged cheeses and slow-cooked dishes also complement its intensity beautifully.
Today, the 2011 is at a magnificent drinking point: open, generous and complex. It can easily evolve for another five to seven years, but truth be told, it is exactly where you want it right now. A wine that unites power and charm effortlessly — and a perfect reminder of why Redigaffi is one of the true icons of modern Tuscany.
