Guidalberto 2016 – Tenuta San Guido

The 2016 Guidalberto from Tenuta San Guido—the legendary estate behind Sassicaia—is an elegant Super Tuscan that blends the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) with the softness of Merlot (40%).

It’s named after Guidalberto della Gherardesca, an ancestor of the Incisa della Rocchetta family, renowned for his forward-thinking approach to farming and land stewardship in Tuscany. This wine embodies his spirit of innovation and tradition.

The 2016 vintage is regarded as one of the finest, offering expressive balance and excellent aging potential.

Deep ruby in color, it opens with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, spice, and a hint of incense. On the palate, it is juicy and refined, showing notes of ripe black cherry, raspberry jam, white pepper, and subtle oak. Fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity provide structure and elegance.

Guidalberto 2016 pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan dishes like tagliata di manzo with arugula and Parmesan, pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar ragù), or arista di maiale (roast pork with sage and garlic). These dishes complement the wine’s full character and aromatic depth.

Status: already drinking beautifully, with cellaring potential until at least 2036.
