Granato is her ultimate reference wine, made from old teroldego vines grown on alluvial soils. The 2006 vintage still shows a deep, surprisingly youthful ruby colour. On the nose, dark cherries, blackberries and plums emerge, followed by notes of violets, spices, wet earth and a subtle balsamic touch. There is something wild and pure about it, yet always under control.
On the palate, the wine is powerful yet strikingly fresh, with a taut structure and a beautiful, natural tension. The fruit remains vibrant and focused, the tannins are fine but present, and the finish is long and mineral-driven. This is not a polished wine, but an honest, profound expression of grape and place, exactly what Foradori strives for.
In terms of food pairing, my thoughts turn to the cuisine of Trentino: game dishes, stews, roasted meats, or earthy preparations with mushrooms and herbs. Even with simply prepared dishes, its character shines through effortlessly.
After nearly twenty years, the Granato 2006 is drinking beautifully today, while still possessing enough structure to age gracefully for several more years. A wine with soul and backbone, showing just how powerful authenticity can be when craftsmanship and terroir come together.
