The 2016 shows that immediately. In the glass, a deep ruby color with radiant clarity. The nose is captivating — cherries, violets, orange peel, and a hint of mint, followed by subtle notes of tobacco and spice. Nothing is loud; everything is precise and balanced. On the palate, it’s the tension that stands out: vibrant acidity, pure fruit, and fine tannins that give the wine length and character. A Brunello full of energy yet gentle, with remarkable precision.
At the table, my mind goes to Tuscan cuisine in its purest form — bistecca alla fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, or even roasted vegetables and herbs that beautifully echo the wine’s mineral side.
The 2016 still brims with youthful strength and will age effortlessly for another ten to fifteen years. Yet even now, with a bit of air, it’s already wonderfully poised. A wine that shows how truly great Sangiovese can be when tradition, precision, and terroir come together.
