Barolo Bussia Riserva Oro 2011 - Parusso

I brought up from the cellar a bottle of Barolo Bussia Riserva Oro 2011 from Parusso, a wine that immediately bears the signature of a producer with a strong, distinctive vision. Under the direction of Marco Parusso, the estate is known for its highly personal, almost unconventional approach to Barolo: a strong focus on extraction, supple tannins, and a style that combines power with accessibility without ever losing the character of Nebbiolo.

The Barolo Riserva Oro from Bussia, made from 100% Nebbiolo, comes from a warm vintage and shows itself accordingly generous and open. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby color with slight evolution. The nose is intense and inviting, offering ripe cherry, plum, and rose, followed by notes of cocoa, licorice, spice, and a subtle balsamic touch. There is clear richness here, balanced by enough freshness to keep everything lively.

On the palate, the wine is full and rounded, with an almost velvety texture. The tannins are beautifully softened and integrated, making it already very approachable. At the same time, it retains structure and depth, with a long, warm finish where fruit and spice merge seamlessly. This is a Barolo that combines charm and power—more seductive than austere.

In terms of food pairings, one naturally turns to the cuisine of Piedmont: brasato, tajarin with truffle, or rich meat dishes and stews. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, where its full character can truly shine.

The 2011 is at a lovely stage of drinking today—open, rounded, and harmonious—yet still with at least another 10 years of potential for further evolution. A wine that perfectly reflects the Parusso style: expressive, generous, and crafted for enjoyment, without sacrificing depth.
